Version 2.10
15th October 1993
Upgrade notes and
SOME of the changes made
from versions 1.xx
and 2.xx.
─────────────
For a complete list of the features of Communiqué v2.10 please
read the FEATURES.DOC document supplied within this archive.
─────────────
New Features
────────────
o HYRDA: This bi-directional protocol has been fully implemented
into Communiqué. Hydra allows you to receive (Upload), transmit
(Download), and chat at the same time. The operation of Hydra is
completely transparent to the user and is entirely like using
Z-modem. Also like Z-modem Hydra has an auto-download feature to
automatically start receipt of files. Many thanks to Arjen Lentz
for his efforts in helping with the code and for his work in
developing this protocol, other software will shortly have this
built-in, and many BBSs in Europe have it installed as an external
protocol already.
o COM PORT DEVICE: You can now select how Communiqué talks with the
modem, either through the UART on your serial card or though a
FOSSIL driver or through the BIOS. The device used is set in the
the SETUP/COMMUNICATION PORTS menu.
o The GLOBAL function in the Dialling Directory allows you to make
changes to all entries in the Dialling Directory, changes such as
changing the DTE (Computer-Modem) speed when changing to a new
modem. This is a registered only function.
o The STATISTICS function in the Dialling Directory is a useful
feature that will give you statistics on connects, connect times
and download/upload totals and averages.
o The COPY function in the Dialling Direcotry will allow you to
copy the contents of one entry to another entry.
o Added support for NOVELL Netware IPX in the multi-tasker detection
and time slicing, allowing for the IPX support for the DOS 5
multiplex interrupt.
Other Changes
─────────────
o The COMMUNIQUE/REGISTER window now contains another option
titled "List Sites". This option will give a pick list of
countries in which a registration site is available, you can
then select a country to view the address and telephone numbers
of the registration site in that country.
o When all fields in the COMMUNIQUE/REGISTER window are empty
CU will look for a file called COMMUNIQ.KEY for registration
information. If it finds this file it will take the information
from the file and place it into the empty fields. The file is
purely a text file. The first line of the file contains your
forename, the second line contains you surname and the third
line contains your serial number.
o Added a new field in the SETUP/PROTOCOLS/INTERNAL/ZMODEM (Phew!)
menu. The ZedZap option allows you to enable or disable Zmodem
ZedZap 8kb blocks on Zmodem file transfers.
o The SETUP/COM PORTS menu now shows which UART type the com port
is using. In the future you will also be able to configure up to
8 com ports (PLUS version only).
o The ALT key now selects the Scroll Back Buffer, just like
the ALT = key combination.
o PLUS: A symbol ('ⁿ') will now appear on the right hand side of
the dialling directory window if the entry has a note attached.
o The Dialling Directory IMPORT function now supports the Procomm
Plus v2.x dialling directories. Previously it only supported
Procomm Plus v1.x.
o You can now increase and decrease the dial and pause time whilst
dialling, using the + and - keys. Some cosmetic changes have been
made to the dialling window to accomodate this.
o Translation tables - It is now easier to make changes to the
translation tables by giving the user a chart to select from
rather than relying on the knowledge of the IBM ALT KeyPad
ASCII codes.
o New option in the MEMO :- F3 sends the current text line to the
modem, as opposed to the whole memo like F2 does.
o You can now specify which record to start writing imported entries
in the Dialling Directory's IMPORT function.
o Added the FileManager option into the FILES menu so that it may be
selected from within the menu system.
o Added a new field in the File Manager below the FILES TAGGED field.
This new field will estimate the approximate upload time to upload
all tagged files. The estimate is based on the DCE (Connect) rate
where possible, otherwise it will use the DTE (Port Baud) rate,
which is not too accurate when the port is locked at 38.4kps or
57.6kps.
o The speed setting for each entry is now displayed in the Dialling
Directory, just after the telephone number display.
o Cosmetic changes everywhere...
Bug Fixes
─────────
o Fixed a bug that caused a lock up if you deleted your PHONE.CPF
file and not the SESSION.CDF which holds information on your
placement within the dialling directory and other bits of
information saved after exit.
o When converting a Qmodem dialling directory the baudrate is
now set correctly.
o Fixed a bug in the AVT 0+ compression, which messed the screen
up when the compression had embedded avatar commands, specially
compressed compression and recursive compression commands.
o The LOCK BAUDRATE in the MODEM menu can again be toggled.
o The bug with XMS overlays and DR DOS v6.0 has now been fixed,
thanks to Wilbert van Leijn.
o Fixed a bug with the ANSI 3.64 scroll window up and window down,
which previously was just overwriting on the current line.
o Fixed a small bug that may have sometimes caused lock-ups when CU
exited on some OS environments.
o The mouse now properly selects all commands on the bottom of the
window in the Dialling Directory.

New Features
────────────
o FILE MANAGER: A complete file manager has been implemented into
Communiqué. The file manager allows you to do many DOS functions
and much more without leaving Communiqué. Pressing ALT-F6 will
bring the File Manager windows up, pressing F1 from there will
display help on the file Manager. The file manager will allow
you to delete, view, edit, copy and tag files. Plus you can view
the contents of a ARJ/LZH/ZIP file, view GIF header information,
create new DOS directories, change directories and drives and
tag files for uploading, deleting and copying.
o IEMSI FILE REQUESTS: Have now been added. IEMSI File Requests
allow you to dial a BBS, automatically logon with IEMSI, and
automatically download a list of files and logoff. And in the
future you will be able to upload also. Pressing "R" from within
the Dialling Directory will bring up this function. Help is
available. This feature will only work with RemoteAccess version
2.00 and above, (non-gamma version to be released shortly). This
This standard will become available with other BBS software in
the near future.
o IMPORT: Communiqué will now internally import dialling directories
from other software from within the Dialling Directory. Currently
supported are Procomm, Procomm Plus, Qmodem, Telemate, Telix, and
the FidoNet nodelist.
o SCROLL BACK BUFFER: Communiqué now stores the contentsof the Scroll
Back Buffer on exit. So, the next time you start CU the Scroll Back
Buffer will be as it was when you last exited CU, if the buffer file
has not been tampered with.
o DIALLING DIRECTORY: A new field has been added in the Dialling
Directory entries. This field titled "Next Linked Entry" is the
number of another Dialling Directory entry. If the telephone number
of the entry dialled is busy it will go to the next entry, as
defined in the "Next Linked Entry" field, and dial that number, if
in turn it is busy it will once again go to the number in the "Next
Linked Entry" field, and so on. Two or more entries can be circular.
o Added the ability to AUTO-DETECT the modem instead of selecting
a default com port. In the SETUP/DEFAULTS menu, instead of setting
a default com port set it to AUTO and Communiqué will pick the
first modem port it detects.
o CONFIGURABLE HELP SCREENS: The help screens for the hotkeys (ALT-
F1), keyboard macros, memo, and the file manager are now stored
in a file called COMMUNIQ.CHF. More help screens will be appearing
later in development.
o ZMODEM UPLOADS: Communiqué will now automatically prompt you for
a filename and automatically start an Zmodem upload if it receives
a Zmodem download string.
o COMMANDLINE: Added a commandline parameter to skip loading the
old Scroll Back Buffer (See above), using this will only speed up
loading CU by half a second though. The new parameter is "/N".
o I have made changes to the "/T" commandline parameter which
now requires a "+" or a "-". The default is "-". This
parameter when used as "/T-" will ignore the modems carrier
state when initialising and dialling the modem.
o Pressing ALT-ESC will generate a file called DEBUG.CDF which
contains all sorts of information on your computer and com port
plus on the Communiqué setup. This will assist me in debugging.
o After considerable pressure from a number of people support has
been added in the new Dialling Direcoty IMPORT function for the
FidoNet Nodelist, allowing you to import information from the
nodelist directly into Communiqué's Dialling Directory.
o Support for ARJ/LZH/ZIP file compression programs in the new
File Manager.
o Support for the CompuServe GIF 87a and 89a graphics formats
from within the File Manager.
Other Changes
─────────────
o I have added the facility to edit the Memo from within the
Scroll Back Buffer. You can now also paste from the Scroll
Back Buffer into the Memo using the Space bar.
o The position of the highlite in the Dialling Directory is now
"remembered" when you exit CU, so that the next time you start
CU it will remember where you were.
o Added configuration items for Zmodem and ASCII Transfers in the
new menu items SETUP/PROTOCOLS/INTERNAL/ZMODEM and ASCII. This
includes the Auto Zmodem Download trigger string.
o The clock on the top right hand side of the screen is now
updated whilst you are in the Dialling Directory.
o When pressing the left mouse button over a char while online CU
will now send a CR with the char itself, previously it just sent
the character over the com port without a CR. This is support
systems without hotkeys.
o Added two new options to the SETUP/GENERAL menu. 1) Wait After
Dial Connect - Will wait for a keypress after you have connected
using the Dialling Directory, turn off if you want fast IEMSI
connects. 2) Auto Mail Scan - Scans the download directory for
QWK files after disconnect and if they exist will run the
specified mail program (See below).
o Added a new field in the SETUP/PATHS menu. This menu item "Mail
Program" is used by the "Auto Mail Scan" function in the SETUP/
GENERAL menu. If a QWK mail packet exists in the download dir
after disconnect it will run this program or batch file. Disable
the option in SETUP/GENERAL if you do not want this item.
o Made changes to the style and reporting of the usage log for better
cost control by external utilties. A utility for cost control will
be released at a later date.
o Added more IEMSI reporting into the usage log.
o CU will now display a help line when you press the ALT key whilst
in Chat Mode (Split or Full Screen) much the same as the one seen
in normal mode. Most menu functions are available in chat mode.
o If the usage log is set to be opened on startup it no longer
prompts for a filename if one is already set in the SETUP/
FILENAMES menu.
o Added a new option in the SETUP/COMPORTS menu to allow you to
reset the com port settings to that reported by the BIOS.
o Added pre-programmed color sets into the SETUP/SCREEN-COLOR menu.
o You can now press the ENTER key whilst CU is in its dialling
loop and CU will return to the commandline without going back
on-hook like ESC will do.
Bug Fixes
─────────
o Thanks to Mark Kerr (Beta Tester) for his help in fixing the
Zmodem auto-download bug that was causing bad header problems
on some systems.
o Fixed a bug in the auto Zmodem download reported by Gerard van
der Land (Beta tester), and Gerard only it seems! This was a
problem with the auto Zmodem download, which was not starting on
receipt of the download trigger. This was caused by extremely
large character arrays received from the BBS software (WME) just
before the download trigger.
o Fixed an obscure little bug in the Dialling Directory which
sometimes did not dial until you pressed ESC or SPACE. This bug
was caused when the next number you dialled was EXACTLY one digit
less than the last number you called.
o Fixed a bug in the ASCII protocols which sometimes prematurely
aborted the transfers.
o Fixed OS/2 detection routines. Previously CU was only detecting
and time-slicing for OS/2 version 1.x, this was caused by a
stupid bug in the assembly coding.
o Fixed a bug that was not always giving time slices away to
MS-Windows. A small matter of a decimal number that should have
been hex.
o Fixed the bug that once returning from a DOS Shell whilst in
CU's Split Screen Chat the cursor was placed at the beginning
of the screen again.
o The blinking attribute is now restored after returning from the
menu system when using the mouse.
o When a new HISTORY.CDF file is created the window that it is
creating a new file no longer says IEMSI.CDF.
o Fixed a small bug in the ANSI/VT102 ESC[2Y command which moved
the cursor. I have also fixed some smaller bugs in the VT52
emulation.
o Fixed a bug in the keyboard, protocol, and other configurable
DOS shells which was not previously allowing you to automatically
run a batch file in a shell from CU.
o You can no longer enter a nul password (CR) for the keyboard
lock.
o The ALT-F1 to F6 function keys now work whilst in the menu
system except keys F3 and F4.
o Fixed a bug with the input routines which whilst in overwrite
mode added a ASCII char #176 to the end of the string in certain
circustances.
